Roofers have been talking for years about the safest, fastest and easiest way to climb steep roofs.
The RidgeReacher™ not only makes accessing steep roofs safe and easy for the first man up but it also meets OSHA standards.
Safer and Stronger - RidgeReacher™ is seamless and fabricated out of 1/4 inch steel plate.
Revolutionary tubular design - The tubular cross member design automatically adjusts to fit different pitched roofs up to 14/12. No adjustment is ever needed!
The Ridge Reacher was engineered to work on steep roofs from 8/12 to 14/12. If you choose to use the Ridge Reacher on roofs under 8/12 pitch we recommend that you attach the tool into the roofs structure using 5/16”x1 1/2” lag bolts. Since your safety is our top priority we recommend bolting the Ridge Reacher down on any pitch roof when possible.
The Ridge Reacher tool was tested and certified at ATS laboratories in Marietta Georgia and meets or exceeds the OSHA standards for a roof anchor point when bolted down as outlined and defined in section 1926.502(d)(15).
FYI - Here’s the OSHA Standard for roof anchors 1926.502(d)(15)
Anchorages used for attachment of personal fall arrest equipment shall be independent of any anchorage being used to support or suspend platforms and capable of supporting at least 5,000 pounds (22.2 kN) per employee attached, or shall be designed, installed, and used as follows:1926.502(d)(15)(i)
as part of a complete personal fall arrest system which maintains a safety factor of at least two; and1926.502(d)(15)(ii)
under the supervision of a qualified person.
When not permanently anchored the RidgeReacher™ would be considered an inspection tool. OSHA allows 15 minutes of inspection time on the roof before you must be attached to an approved anchor point. So you would not be in violation. If you determine you will be on the roof more than 15 minutes you would need to attach the RidgeReacher™ to the roof structure as part of a complete personal fall arrest system to be in compliance.
The RidgeReacher™ is installed by setting the vertical ridge hook over the roofs peak. The System then works by using both vertical and horizontal planes that are connected together to create a downward pressure on the roofs deck. This downward pressure is greatly increased when weight is applied to the horizontal cross members. Using these simple gravitational laws we are able to create a safer way to access and work on steep roofs.
The horizontal cross members comes in contact with both sides of the roofing deck as the Ridge Reacher straddles the peak. The Ridge Reacher has a steel fastening plate that simply clamps over the back cross member that contacts with the roof. Once the fastening plate is clamped over the back cross member simply attach the plate to the roofs structure by installing 2 5/16” x 1 1/2’ lag bolts in preferred pre-drilled holes to the roofs structure. On the front cross member “ the side the lanyard is attached to “ install 2 more matching size lag bolts in pre drilled holes. After the work is completed you will need to remove the lag bolts and watertight the penetrations. Finally, set the Ridge Reacher back over the ridge and carefully descend to your ladder.
